Annual turnover and invention disclosures at Satt Sud-Est fell as the TTO shifted its strategy in favour of deep tech applications and co-maturation agreements.
The number of invention disclosures processed by France-based regional tech transfer office Satt Sud-Est fell by roughly 10% in 2018 to 98 from 109 the previous year.
The TTO yielded an annual turnover of about $1.3m, down from $4m year-on-year. Its spinouts collectively generated $11.8m over the course of 2018.
Satt Sud-Est concluded 13 licence agreements in 2018 compared with 19 in 2017 – the lowest number reported since 2013.
However total patents and software deals climbed to 52 from 49 year-on-year, and Satt Sud-Est added 19 new commercialisation projects to its purview, matching the number started in 2017.
Laurent Baly, president of Satt Sud-Est, admitted 2019 was a time of transition for the TTO as it sought to retool its strategy to support deep tech applications, in addition to close relationships with its industry partners.
The TTO is increasingly opting to “co-mature” its project pipeline in collaboration with external firms, in a bid to improve the chances of the technologies reaching the market.
