Samsung looks to acquire LED manufacturer Novaled for over $200m.

Smartphone manufacturer Samsung is looking to acquire organic light-emitting diode (OLED) manufacturer Novaled, a spin-out of the Technical University of Dresden, for over $200m, according to multiple news outlets.
The Germany-based spin-out, founded in 2001, manufactures OLED technology and materials which are used in mobile phone displays, and holds many key patents for the technology.
Since 2005, the company has maintained a partnership with Samsung to provide OLED tech, which led to an investment for an undisclosed amount in Novaled by Samsung in 2011.
The firm is in talks with Samsung subsidiary Cheil Industries. An unnamed source from Cheil speaking to Korean news provider ETnews said: “It is true that we are in the process of taking over Novaled. But we cannot disclose details on the negotiation.”
