UW spinout Nicoya has its sight set on product development and business expansion after a series A round featuring UW Student Venture Fund and Wilfrid Laurier University’s Startup Fund.

Nicoya, a Canada-based bioscience research instrument supplier spun out of University of Waterloo, has raised C$10m ($7.7m) in a series A round featuring the University of Waterloo Student Venture Fund.
Whitecap Venture Partners, the VC arm of family office Whitecastle Investments, led the round, which also included Wilfrid Laurier University’s Startup Fund and Mars Investment Accelerator Fund, the vehicle aligned to multi-university commercialisation firm Toronto Innovation Acceleration Partners.
