Laurie Locascio, the former principal deputy director at US government agency National Institute of Standards and Technology (Nist), has joined University of Maryland as vice-president for research.
Locascio had spent three decades at Nist, eventually directing seven research laboratories tasked with developing improved measuring systems and standards. She joined the university on October 1.
