Life sciences veteran Gerald J Vardzel has been named president and CEO of University of Pittsburgh’s LifeX Labs.

Gerald J Vardzel Jr has been appointed as president and chief executive officer at LifeX Labs, University of Pittsburgh’s life sciences incubator, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported today.
Vardzel joins the incubator from drug discovery platform Predictive Oncology, where he was president and director.
Evan Facher, a LifeX Labs board member and director of the university’s Innovation Institute, served as interim CEO for the incubator until Vardzel assumed the role on January 4, 2021.
Vardzel, who is an alumnus of University of Pittsburgh, had already been an executive-in-residence at LifeX Labs since July 2020.
Founded in 2017, LifeX Labs is focused on supporting the development of early-stage life science companies operating in the pharmaceuticals, medical device, diagnostics and digital health sectors.
