Robert Haché will end his tenure as vice-president of research and innovation at York University to lead Laurentian University from July.

Laurentian University on Monday selected Robert Haché (pictured), the current vice-president of research and innovation at York University, to become its new president.
Haché will take the presidency for a five-year renewable term on July 1. He succeeds Pierre Zundel, who has held the post on an interim basis since August 2017.
Haché joined York from University of Calgary, where he had been associate vice-president for research from 2009 until 2011. He had an earlier five-year spell as vice-dean for research in University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine from 2003 until 2008.
He has also chaired and served on the committees of organisations including academic research board Ontario Council of University Research.
Haché holds a biochemistry PhD from Queen’s University and a BSc from McGill University in the same field. His research into steroid hormone action and DNA damaging agents has been funded by numerous agencies, including the Canadian Institute for Health Research, National Science and Engineering Research Council and National Cancer Institute of Canada.
Haché said: “Laurentian University’s 2018-2023 Strategic Plan is impressive. It is committed to strengthening the foundation of knowledge in higher education and research to offer an outstanding university experience in English and French with a comprehensive approach to Indigenous education.”
“My priority will be to pursue this vision and engage all disciplines – from the arts to science, education, management, health and much more – in achieving our ambitions and developing our incredible potential together.”
