Smart urban lighting management business Smartnodes has been picked up by Lacroix Group having spun out of University of Liège and UCLouvain in 2007.

Smartnodes, a Belgium-based connected street lighting technology spinout of University of Liège and Université catholique (UC) de Louvain, was acquired today by technological equipment supplier Lacroix Group for an undisclosed sum.
Founded in 2014, Smartnodes supplies municipal authorities with sensor-powered modules and power outlets that enable them to dynamically operate streetlamps thanks to their low-bandwidth networking output and ability to run from edge servers.
The technology will be integrated with Lacroix’s existing smart cities range to enhance the corporate’s appeal in the streetlight management segment.
Smartnodes grew from collaborative research co-led by University of Liège’s Jacques Destiné and UCLouvain’s André De Herde.
It was founded with investment from lighting fixture technology supplier Arthos Technics and construction and power services provider Ronveaux, though full details could not be ascertained.
