Vikram Jandhyala is standing down as executive director of University of Washington’s CoMotion but will remain with the university in other capacities.
Vikram Jandhyala (pictured) is to leave his position as executive director of CoMotion, University of Washington (UW)’s tech transfer office, in June 2019 to dedicate more time to his other roles with the university, GeekWire reported yesterday.
Jandhyala is expected to continue as co-executive director of the Global Innovation Exchange accelerator partnership, which UW runs alongside Tsinghua University.
It was unclear whether he will remain the university’s vice-president of innovation strategy.
Jandhyala joined UW in 2000 as an assistant professor of electrical engineering, going on to succeed Linden Rhodes as vice-provost of innovation in 2014 after three years heading his faculty department.
The role was later adjusted to vice-president of innovation strategy as CoMotion emerged from Washington’s commercialisation restructuring to extend services for non-university entrepreneurs, and Jandhyala was also selected to lead the new division as executive director.
Jandhyala’s work at CoMotion has helped University of Washington enter Reuters’ top 10 ranking of the world’s most innovative universities in recent years.
The institution also featured in the top 10 of non-profit think-tank Milken Institute’s best US institutions for tech transfer in 2017.
Jandhyala told GeekWire: “These last five years have been amazing and I am really proud of the momentum and accomplishments made by the team at CoMotion.
“They have produced a standout service for the community of UW innovators and built strong connections to the local and global innovation ecosystems.”
