James Fogt has been promoted to lead Harris-Stowe State University's new tech transfer office having been with the historically black public university since 1999.
Harris-Stowe State University (HSSU), a historically black public university (HBCU), has promoted James Fogt to chief innovation officer of its newly-established Center for Academic Innovation and Technology Transfer (CAITT).
CAITT has been set up to cultivate inventions with commercial potential through incentives such as licensing and revenue-sharing, and to scrutinise HSSU’s capacity for certain occupational-oriented degrees.
As chief innovation officer, Fogt will be tasked with progressing new intellectual properties in collaboration with HSSU’s faculty, staff and students.
He has been with HSSU since 1999 in a series of IT management posts, most recently as vice-president for IT services from 2013.
Harris-Stowe State University also plans to explore partnerships with other HBCUs to test the commercial potential of some of its intellectual properties.
Fogt said: “I am very excited to take on the role of chief innovation officer and to begin working with faculty, staff and students to formalise the technology-transfer process at our esteemed university.”
