Wandelbots, a Germany-based developer of industrial robotics software based on research at TU Dresden, has secured more than $84m in a series C round featuring software producer Microsoft as well as industrial technology manufacturer Siemens’ Next47 fund. Growth equity firm Insight Partners led the round, which included 83North, Paua Ventures, Atlantic Labs and EQT. May Mobility, a US-based autonomous vehicle technology developer exploiting University of Michigan research, has raised $83m in series C funding from investors including insurance firm Tokio Marine and carmakers BMW and Toyota, which took part through BMW i Ventures, and Toyota Tsusho and Toyota Ventures respectively. The round was led by Toyota-backed fund Mirai Creation Fund II and also featured Millennium Technology Value Partners, Cyrus Capital Partners, 1843 Capital and Bay Lake Ventures. Cellino Biotech, a US-based creator of an autonomous system for cell therapy manufacturing based on research at Harvard University, has received $80m in a series A round including Harvard-backed venture fund The Engine. The round was led by pharmaceutical and chemical producer Bayer through its Leaps by Bayer unit, while 8VC, Humboldt Fund, Felicis Ventures and Khosla Ventures also took part. VitalFluid, a Netherlands-based developer of nitrogen extraction technology based on research at Eindhoven University of Technology, has secured €2m ($2.3m) in funding from investors including industrial manufacturing group VDL Groep’s VDL Participaties subsidiary. The round also featured development agency Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij (BOM).
