Every day, Global University Venturing rounds up investments from across the university innovation ecosystem in its deal net.

SafelyYou, a US-based developer of artificial intelligence-powered fall detection and prevention technology aimed at dementia patients that is based on research at University of California (UC), Berkeley, closed a $30m series B round yesterday led by real estate investment trust Omega Healthcare Investors. Scan Group, the parent company of health system Scan Health Plan, also took part in the round, as did Eclipse Ventures, Foundation Capital, Founders Fund and DCVC. Omega concurrently prepaid $10m to install SafelyYou’s offering across its facilities. SafelyYou previously picked up $19.5m in a series A round backed by UC Berkeley-aligned House Fund in September 2021.

Integra Therapeutics, a Spain-based spinout of Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) developing gene writing tools to increase the efficiency and safety of therapies, has secured €4.5m ($5.1m) in an inaugural funding round backed by Takeda Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of pharmaceutical company Takeda. The round also included Advent France Biotechnology and Invivo Capital 1. Learn more about UPF’s spinouts in our Talking Tech Transfer interview with Albert Domingo, director at the institution’s commercialisation subsidiary, UPF Ventures.

Breathe Battery Technologies, a UK-based battery management technology developer spun out of Imperial College London, has raised £1.5m ($2m) in a funding round led by Speedinvest, UKTN reported yesterday. The money extends the spinout’s runway through 2022, allowing it to recruit more staff and scale up its testing facilities in London.

RAIQC, a UK-based platform to help improve the interpretation of medical imaging in a secure and anonymised way, was spun out of teaching hospital Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) NHS Foundation Trust yesterday with the support of tech transfer office Oxford University Innovation. OUH expects to reinvest any royalties its gains into its trust to further benefit patients.
