The Global University Venturing deal net rounds up the smaller investments from across the university innovation ecosystem.
Eridan, a US-based mobile telecoms infrastructure developer, has revealed a total of $46m in funding, split between a previously undisclosed $8m series A round led by Social Capital and a $38m series B round co-led by Capricorn Investment Group, Monta Vista Capital and Social Capital, according to TechCrunch. Eridan was co-founded by Earl McCune, a professor at Delft University of Technology until his death in May 2020.
Princeton NuEnergy, a US-based spinout of Princeton University working on the regeneration of lithium-ion battery material, has raised $7m in a seed round led by electronics recycling company Wistron. Shell Ventures, the oil and gas producer’s corporate venturing arm, transmission and drivetrain systems provider Greenland Technologies as well as CleanTech Open, AIBasis Fund, WorldQuant Ventures and existing investors also took part.
Aiber, a UK-based first aid software with onboard kit provider for emergencies in remote settings, has closed a £2m ($2.4m) in a round led by BGF, with participation from Scottish Enterprise and Equity Gap, according to Insider. Aiber is the trading name of Mime Technologies.
DeepEcho, a UK-based artificial intelligence platform to analyse foetal ultrasounds, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from UM6P Ventures, the investment fund of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University. DeepEcho will receive access to research facilities and infrastructure at the university.
Knine Biotech, a US-based developer of artificial intelligence for early cancer detection in dogs, has been spun out of University of Minnesota. The company is the 200th spinout of University of Minnesota since 2006 – half of which were created in the past five years.
