Every day, Global University Venturing rounds up the smaller investments from across the university innovation ecosystem in its deal net.
CancerIQ, a US-based precision health spinout of University of Chicago, has raised $4.8m in a series A round led by HealthX Ventures, ChicagoInno reported on Friday. Impact Engine and Lightbank also took part in the round. CancerIQ’s software uses genetics and family history to identify and manage patients at high risk for cancer. It was spun out of University of Chicago Hospitals in 2013 by a team led by Feyi Olopade Ayodele, then a project manager at the Center for Clinical Cancer Genetics. Cancer IQ has obtained more than $8m in funding.
Micronoma, a US-based early cancer detection technology spinout of University of California, San Diego, has completed a $3m seed round led by Symbiosis. Founded in June 2019, Micronoma will use the cash to further advance its microbiome-based cancer detection technology. The spinout’s method is able to detect more than one cancer indication in a single blood sample, but Micronoma will initially focus its efforts on lung cancer.
