Cliff Michaels has wrapped up 13 years at Emory University to direct Georgia State University's Office of Technology Licensing and Commercialization.
Cliff Michaels (pictured) has been named director of Georgia State University’s Office of Technology Licensing and Commercialization, after 13 years working in Emory University’s tech transfer office.
Michaels was promoted to interim director of Emory University’s Office of Technology Transfer in September 2018, and was previously assistant director for licensing between 2016 and 2018.
He performed a number of other duties for the TTO from 2006 onwards, including senior licensing associate from 2014 until 2016, marketing associate between mid-2010 and early 2011 and intellectual property associate from 2007 until 2010.
Michaels has also gained leadership expertise at nonprofit life sciences research promotion board Georgia Bio and tech transfer body Autm, where he remains a volunteer, according to LinkedIn.
He was also a consultant at technology commercialisation firm Ripple Management for about a year from early 2010 until 2011.
Michael Eriksen, interim vice-president of research and economic development at Georgia State, added: “We are thrilled to welcome Cliff as head of the technology and commercialisation office.
“He brings incredible energy and a wealth of experience in patenting, licensing and startup development, and will be a valuable resource for our faculty.”
Michaels added: “I am excited to join a university with a rapidly expanding research base that is diverse and full of potential. I look forward to working with Georgia State’s faculty and drawing on my experiences from Emory to support and grow a culture of innovation at the university.”
