QuayChain has been formed by Allied Minds to commercialise an IoT hub for industrial sites such as airports, warehouses and transport hubs.
Commercialisation firm AlliedMinds has incorporated US-based spinout called QuayChain to commercialise wireless technology aimed at digitalising industrial supply chain processes.
QuayChain will develop an industrial internet-of-things (IoT) platform named Smart Industrial Hub that aggregates real-time data from multiple devices at facilities such as airports, warehouses and transport hubs.
The platform will be accessible from a standard LTE-enabled wireless device, enabling clients to reap more data from across the supply chain.
Smart Industrial Hubs achieve this by broadcasting on a frequency known as Citizens Broadband Radio System (CBRS) that has been introduced to enhance the wireless connectivity of small in-building networks.
To power the wireless function of its products, QuayChain plans to deploy CBRS spectrum-sharing technology from another Allied Minds spinout, Federated Wireless, which sells a range of wireless communications systems.
Iyad Tarazi, chief executive of Federated Wireless, has joined the QuayChain board as an independent director, alongside Andrew Scott, an executive with expertise in logistics and supply chains.
Simon Davidson, executive vice-president of technology investments at Allied Minds, will lead QuayChain as interim president until a permanent executive team for the company can be found.
Davidson said: “We are excited to announce the formation of QuayChain. Smart Industrial Hubs, enabled by CBRS spectrum sharing, have the potential to generate substantial efficiencies in supply chain management.
“We are well placed to execute given our expertise and network in next-generation connectivity, gleaned in particular from our investment in Federated Wireless.”
