Kosuke Mori is chief executive officer at Saison International, the Singapore-based international arm of Japanese financial services firm Credit Saison. Additionally, he serves as managing partner for Saison Capital, Credit Saison’s venture capital arm.

Founded in 1951, Credit Saison is one of Japan’s largest non-bank financial companies, with more than 70 years of operations. Over the years, the Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed company has established itself as a leading credit-card issuer in Japan and has evolved into a diversified financial services company globally.

Since its inception in 2014, Saison International has run joint ventures with regional financial institutions in South-East Asia. Through the Saison Capital venture arm, it also invests up to $30m per year in pre-seed to series B-stage companies, particularly in Southeast Asia, India and Brazil.

“The Latin America region holds the greatest growth potential for us as a group outside of Asia and forms the important next chapter for us as a global group.”

In July 2024, Credit Saison entered Brazil and Mexico with $200m to finance Latin American startups. The firm allocated $100m each for new subsidiaries Credit Saison Brazil and Credit Saison Mexico, supplying equity and debt financing for entrepreneurs, startups and small and medium-sized enterprises. Equity investments are made either directly through Saison Capital or local VC funds.

“The Latin America region holds the greatest growth potential for us as a group outside of Asia and forms the important next chapter for us as a global group,” says Mori.

Recent investments by Saison Capital include taking part in the $26.7m series A funding round for Capim, a Brazilian buy-now-pay-later platform for dentistry, and investing in the $17.3m fundraising round for CashU, a Brazilian business-to-business lender.

Mori also serves as chairman of Credit Saison India, which has a branch network of 45 physical offices, 1.2 million active loans and an employee base of 1,000. Indian investments include backing Zoplar, a medical equipment procurement platform, and Zinc, a startup helping people save for education-related expenses.
