Gail Ennis, chief executive of Karmasphere, said: "Shun Aramaki, who led the investment in Karmasphere, brings with him a wealth of big data market expertise."

Karmasphere, a US-based provider of data analysis on Hadoop, has raised $6m in its series B round led by Presidio Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of Japan’s Sumitomo trading conglomerate, as a new investor.

Venture capital firms Hummer Winblad and US Venture Partners reinvested in the B round after Karmasphere launched with $5m last year.

Gail Ennis, chief executive of Karmasphere, said: "Shun Aramaki, who led the investment in Karmasphere, brings with him a wealth of big data market expertise."

Aramaki, partner at Presidio, added: "Big data is becoming ever more important for enterprise companies.

"Karmasphere provides the critical bridge between the business needs for competitive intelligence and the big data infrastructure on Hadoop."
