Gaming voice app producer Discord, formerly game developer Hammer & Chisel, has raised $20m from investors including existing backer Tencent.

US-based gaming voice app developer Discord has secured approximately $20m in funding from investors including internet company Tencent, VentureBeat has reported.

Venture capital firm Greylock Partners led the round, which included Tencent, incubator YouWeb and VC firm Benchmark.

The company was originally founded as game developer Hammer & Chisel in 2012, but pivoted two years later to concentrate on its Discord voice technology, making it publicly available in May 2015.
