Alan Lewis, executive president of Ambit, said: "Our existing investors have reaffirmed their confidence in the company, providing us with sufficient funding [$30m] to pursue our strategy and enabling us to withdraw our plans for an initial public offering."

NYSE-listed technology company LSI Corporation has joined the latest $21m round backing US ethernet connection company Aquantia.

The series B round follows Holtzbrinck Ventures (HV) spinning out from German media parent Georg von Holtzbrinck Publishing Group.

The semiconductor parts maker has taken $22m in a funding round which included Russian state investment firm Rusnano.

US-based drugs company Cephalon has co-led the Y2bn ($24m) series E round for SymBio Pharmaceuticals, a Japan-based company treating blood disorders.

As well as its 24% equity stake, Elan will have a seat on Proteostasis' board of directors and scientific advisory board, and the first right to exclusively license new drug compounds from the collaboration.

Alongside Syngenta Ventures and Mitsui Global Investment were an undisclosed family investment trust and existing venture capital investors Stuart Mill Venture Partners, Contrarian Group, Saffron Hill Ventures, One Earth Capital, Clean Pacific Ventures and Calvert Social Ventures.

Alongside SAP Ventures in OpenX's $20m D round are AOL Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of internet services provider AOL, Japan-based financial services group Mitsui, Presidio Ventures, which invests on behalf of Japanese conglomerate Sumitomo and venture capital firms Accel Partners, DAG Ventures and Index Ventures.

Alongside DTE Energy Ventures in the consortium backing QD Vision's $22m round were In-Q-Tel, which invests on behalf of the US intelligence services, and venture capital firms.
