Craig Schedler has stepped down as head of US financial planning and life insurance company Northwestern Mutual’s corporate venturing unit, after leading the team since 2016.

Craig Schedler has stepped down from his role as managing director of Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, the corporate investment arm of US financial planning and life insurance company Northwestern Mutual, to pursue a new opportunity.
Schedler, who was part of the GCV Powerlist in 2025, joined Northwestern Mutual 13 years ago as director of corporate strategy and moved on to leading the company’s CVC unit when it launched in 2016.
Since launching, the unit has grown from an initial $50m fund to managing more than $300m in assets today. The unit invests in seed through series B companies that are working toward key innovations in consumer finance, digital health and wellness, data analytics and wealth management.
Speaking of his departure, Schedler stated, “I had an incredible 13-year journey at Northwestern Mutual launching and building NM Future Ventures. I leave with a sense of accomplishment and know the team will continue to build on the foundation we created.” He did not mention what his next move was going to be.
