After two years as partner at Jera Ventures, Tim Romero will be going to a part-time advisory role at the end of August.

Tim Romero is stepping down from his role as partner at Jera Ventures, the CVC unit of Japanese energy company Jera, at the end of the month.

He will remain in a part-time, advisory capacity to support the unit.

“I’m looking forward to this transition and the opportunity to engage in new conversations, exchange ideas, and stay connected with colleagues across the industry,” said Romero in an email.

He joined the unit in late 2023 after a three-year stint as head of Google for Startups in Japan, which itself followed another nearly three-year posting at electric utility Tepco’s corporate VC unit, where he was chief technology officer.

Jera Ventures invests in startups in areas like decarbonisation, hydrogen, renewable energy, blockchain, AI, digital energy platforms, employee well-being, femtech and others.

Its portfolio includes startups like clean energy credit trading platform provider Granular Energy, electrolyser technology developers Advanced Ionics and Power to Hydrogen, as well as a number of LP positions.
