Anthony Philippakis has been promoted to general partner at GV, formerly known as Google Ventures, the corporate venture arm of US-based conglomerate Alphabet.

In his new position, he will focus on investments in life science and healthcare startups. Philippakis has worked at GV since its inception. He became a venture partner for the firm in 2012.

Philippakis works part time at the Broad Institute, a biomedical research centre.

He spent six years at Brigham and Women’s Hospital as a fellow in cardiovascular medicine and a resident in internal medicine.

GV was founded in 2009. The firm invests in various sectors including consumer, life science and enterprise with 355 companies in its portfolio.
