The head of Chilean retail conglomerate Cencocud's startup investment arm is leaving after four years.

José Antonio (Pepe) Pascual del Valle has left as head of Cencosud Ventures, the corporate VC arm of Chilean retail conglomerate Cencosud, after four years on the job.

Known among his colleagues for his contrarian thinking and looking for counterintuitive opportunities, Pascual told GCV he will focus on writing lessons learned form his years in corporate venturing, as well as speaking to corporates about exploring new venturing initiatives.

Prior to joining Cencosud, Pascual spent five years at Telefónica’s Wayra investment unit in Latin America, first as head of scouting and head of portfolio in Chile, to later head of scouting and investments for the entire region.

The unit, which places a strong emphasis on venture clienting, has invested in startups such as fashion retail marketplace Vopero and live sales platform provider Mimo Live Sales.
