Jennifer Moreland worked in financial roles at the UK oil and gas company before joining the VC arm.

Jennifer Moreland, a former vice president in BP’s treasury team, has become head of ventures at the UK-headquartered oil and gas company.

Moreland takes over from Gareth Burns, who had led BP Ventures for the past three years.

Moreland was part of BP’s treasury leadership team, which is responsible for integrating acquisitions.

Before joining BP, Moreland worked for five years at Barclays, where she held various roles in the UK bank’s treasury department.

Founded in 2007, BP Ventures has invested in 75 startups and deployed $1.2bn in capital. Its investments are focused on helping the parent move to net zero by 2050.

The change in CEO at the corporate venturing arm comes amidst a restructuring at the parent company after it posted a £2bn loss in the fourth quarter of 2024. It has since refocused its business lines to focus on oil and gas projects and reduced investments in renewable energy.
