After 12 years as an investor with Octopus, Lukasz Michalak has moved to the Ukrainian energy firm DTEK to work on clean tech investments.
Lukasz Michalak has joined the Ukrainian energy company DTEK as deputy head of clean tech solutions and ventures, after nearly 12 years working for the UK investment company Octopus.
Michalak joined Octopus in 2013 as an investment manager, rising to investment director in 2020 after a role in corporate development. Octopus has subsidiaries in energy, real estate, investment management and venture capital. As part of his role, Michalak became a non-executive director of Weev, a UK electric vehicle charging startup, when Octopus invested in it in May 2023.
DTEK is a Ukrainian energy company working across oil and gas, coal and renewable sources of energy. In his new role, Michalak will invest in European cleantech startups.
He will work under Nacho Gimenez, who is head of clean tech solutions and ventures and also has a CVC background. He joined in March 2024 after working as managing partner of BP Ventures, the CVC unit of UK oil and gas multinational BP.
