After spending a year as Baker Hughes's New Venture Group's senior deal lead, Kai Martin has been hired by Shell Ventures as its new investment manager.

Kai Martin has been hired by Shell Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of UK-headquartered oil and gas major.

After spending nearly two years as the senior deal lead at Baker Hughes’s New Venture Group, Martin will now act as investment manager at Shell Ventures. Prior to this, he was strategic innovation and corporate development manager at Rolls Royce’s spinoff Anecome Aerotest.

Founded in 1996, Shell Ventures invests in startups operating in oil and gas technologies and mobility solutions. The firm has close to 80 companies in its portfolio, such as AiDash, Asperitas and Li Industries.

Baker Hughes’ New Venture Group is the corporate venture arm of US-based oil and gas equipment developer Baker Hughes. The corporation has invested in more than 60 startups including decarbonisation technology firm Levidian, which received $14.9m from Baker Hughes in 2022.
