Erin Hallock, former managing partner at BP Ventures, will work with startups to deploy their technologies among the Nato members.

Erin Hallock has left her role as managing partner at BP Ventures, the investment arm of oil and gas company BP, to join the Nato Innovation Fund as partner.

Hallock spent nearly seven years at BP Ventures where she led investments in digital technologies, deep tech and exploratory tech.

In a LinkedIn statement announcing her new role, Hallock said, “At a time of geopolitical uncertainty, I believe that deep tech innovations can lay the foundations for a more secure, resilient and economically stable Alliance.”

Established in 2022 and backed by 24 NATO allies, the $1.2bn Nato Innovation Fund is a standalone VC fund that invests in defence tech and deep tech startups.

Hallock’s hire follows a series of exits at the fund that saw most of the original founding partners departing. The fund also hired Ulrich Quay, former head of BMW’s investment arm, along with Sander Verbrugge, a Dutch PhD researcher in molecular biophysics and former partner at deep tech VC firm Innovation Industries, as partners in July this year.
