Matt Carbonara was a managing director at Citi's venture arm for over six years, following CVC positions at Cisco and Comcast.

Matt Carbonara, former managing director of financial services group Citi’s strategic investment arm, has joined venture capital firm Mayfield as its latest investor.
Carbonara departed Citi Ventures in April 2025 after six-and-a-half years, having led investments in portfolio companies including AI coding startup Poolside, AI voice platform Deepgram and Snyk, the cybersecurity software provider valued at $7.4bn in its most recent round.
The move represents a return to financial VC for Carbonara, who was a general partner at venture firm Reservoir Venture Partners before entering CVC through a corporate development role at Cisco in 2011. That was followed by stints at Comcast Ventures and Cisco Investments, before he joined Citi Ventures in 2018.
“I’m excited to join a firm with a people-first culture, a history of partnering with entrepreneurs building category defining companies and over 55 years of perspective on the venture capital industry,” Carbonara said in a LinkedIn post announcing his latest role.
