Thomas Birr

Thomas Birr is leaving his chief strategy officer role at German utility company E.ON after serving six years in the firm.

The news follows him stepping down from his role as leader of innovation at E.ON in February.

He alluded to sharing soon what’s next in his new career chapter in a LinkedIn post while saying he “remains fully committed to innovation, impact and building a sustainable energy future for Europe and beyond”.

Birr joined the company as part of E.ON’s acquisition of Innogy, another German utilities company, where he was chief executive of Innogy’s Innovation Hub, its startup accelerator and corporate venturing arm, which he started with in 2016.

E.ON makes strategic investments mainly targeting clean tech startups. In 2022, E.ON spun off its CVC arm, Future Energy Ventures, which has since become an independent fund.
