The corporate venturing unit of the semiconductor business backed Braigo, a low-cost braille printer for blind people company, as Intel Capital revealed it had backed 16 companies in deals worth $62m.

Shubham Banerjee, of Braigo Labs, a 13 year old  (pictured), has become the youngest venture capital-backed founder in history, according to Intel Capital’s head Arvind Sodhani.

At Intel Capital’s Global Summit in Huntington Beach, California, today Banerjee was named the youngest venture-backed founder in history, based on Intel Capital’s internal research.

Banerjee has invented low-cost braille printers for blind people using Lego pieces and Intel Edison chips for US-based Braigo Labs.

The business has been boot-strapped since February this year and its lawyer is Inventus Law and financial advisor is Silicon Valley Bank.

Banerjee appeared on stage with Arvind Sodhani, as the company revealed its latest deal activity, backing 16 technology companies worth about $62m.

The deals backed by Intel Capital included three new devices and wearables companies, Braigo Labs, Avegant, a personal theater company, and Eyefluence, which can use eye movements to make actions in the wider world.

They also included multiple mobility and wireless deals. These were Andapt, a US-based power consumption management company, Audyssey, a US-based audio technology company, Incoming Media, a US-based mobile video platform which uses predictive data analytics, Inrix, which does big data analytics, Screenovate Technologies, an Israel-based mobile solutions company covering entertainment, productivity and education, and China and Taiwan-based mobile operating system company Thundersoft.

There were also various microprocessor and system on chip deals.These were NetSpeed System, a US-based system on chip design company, Reno Sub-systems, a Canada-based company control process systems made by original equipment manufacturers.

Big data and cloud deals backed by Intel Capital were Gigva, a US-based cloud-based customer identity management platform, PilotTV, a Taiwan-based digital signage network operator, PrecisionHawk, a US-based unmanned aerial vehicle company, Prelet a US-based company which packages data science into downloadable applications for everyday users, Stratoscale, an Israel-based company providing software for data centres and Ossia, a US-based smart antenna company.
