The sugarcane processing giant will invest in series A companies focused on agricultural technologies.

Brazilian sugarcane processing company Grupo Colorado is launching a new corporate VC unit focused on agtech investments, according to reporting from Brazil’s Globo Rural.

The CVC operation is being set up by Maurilio Mendonça and Marcelo Camargo –  partners in new business development at Grupo Colorado – with a view to diversifying the business.

The unit will back early-stage startups, primarily around pre-A and series A stage, involved in areas like biofuels, industrial automation, precision agriculture, robotics, and other bioinputs.

Elias Ospina, who was previously innovation community manager for PwC Agtech Innovation, is being brought on board to serve as the company’s director of open innovation and corporate venture.
