Taesa Ventures will seek to invest in startups making advances in the electricity sector.

Brazilian electric power transmission company Taesa has launched a new corporate VC unit to back startups in the electricity sector.
Taesa Ventures’ main areas of focus will include sensing, automation, robotisation and energy storage.
“Our purpose is clear: to accelerate innovative solutions that transform the electricity sector and reinforce our commitment to efficiency, sustainability and long-term growth.” said unit chief Alexandre Pompeu on LinkedIn.
“We’ve already started with everything. We launched 9 open innovation challenges, with real problems that we want to solve together with those who are willing to co-create the future of energy with us.”
The open innovation challenges are calls for potential partners to apply and present proposals for solutions in specific areas. These include predictive maintenance, intelligent resource management, asset planning and robotics for inspection. They also have calls out for proposals for drone monitoring and diagnostics, automated image analysis, and intelligent inspection for transmission tower construction.
