Funds

Impact venture firm Sopoong raised $8m for its sixth fund, from limited partners including petroleum refiner GS Holdings, chemical producer Isu and Asan Nanum Foundation, which was set up by carmaker Hyundai Group, TechCrunch has reported. It will invest in environmentally-minded startups in South Korea and Southeast Asia.

Public markets

US-based precision oncology drug developer Acrivon Therapeutics floated on Tuesday in a $94.4m initial public offering that allowed Alexandria Venture Investments, the strategic investment arm of life sciences real estate investment trust Alexandria Real Estate Equities, to exit. The company, valued at approximately $234m in the IPO, had raised $115m as of its $100m series B round in November 2021.

M&A

Video editing tool developer bought Evernote, the note-taking app developer backed by media company Nikkei, mobile network NTT Docomo and enterprise software producer Salesforce, for an undisclosed sum. US-based Evernote had raised roughly $270m as of a $20m investment by Nikkei in 2014, and had been valued at $1bn the previous year.

Automotive manufacturer Stellantis agreed to acquire Hungary-based autonomous driving software developer AImotive in a deal of undisclosed size enabling industrial equipment maker Robert Bosch, networking technology producer Cisco, graphics chipmaker Nvidia and consumer electronics manufacturer Samsung to exit. It had raised $48.5m as of 2018, adding $20m in a June 2022 series C round.

Gene therapy developer Kriya Therapeutics is purchasing Redpin Therapeutics, a peer focusing on diseases of the nervous system, for an undisclosed sum. It closed $15.5m in series A funding from investors including Alexandria Real Estate Equities subsidiary Alexandria Venture Investments and Takeda Ventures, the investment arm of pharmaceutical firm Takeda, in early 2020.

Security deposit insurance provider Rhino agreed to buy the technology and assets of Deposify, an Ireland-based deposit management technology developer that counts Bank of Ireland and ecommerce software producer Escher Group as investors. The size of the deal has not been revealed.
