Insurer Taiwan Life has committed $16.4m to three venture capital vehicles in the United States and Europe, according to regulatory filings seen by DealStreetAsia. It contributed just under $10m for Foresite Capital Fund VI, a vehicle for US-based VC firm Foresite Capital Management, $4.9m for Latitude III and less than $1.5m to Solar Fund I, both of which are managed by UK-headquartered VC firm Phoenix Court Group.
M&A
Samsung Display, the large format display manufacturing subsidiary of electronics producer Samsung, has paid about $300m to acquire Samsung portfolio company Cynora, a Germany-based producer of organic light-emitting diode materials, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing sources privy to the matter. Samsung subsidiary Samsung Ventures had most recently invested in Cynora’s $25m series C round in 2019 alongside OLED display supplier LG Display.
Eyewear chain operator Lenskart has acquired a majority share of Owndays, a Japan-based peer backed by conglomerate Mitsui, for $400m, according to Bloomberg, citing a person familiar with the matter. Mitsui and its Principal Investments vehicle were among the selling shareholders, as was private equity firm L Catterton, the source said.
