US insurance firm MassMutual’s investment arm has appointed Kara Burns a senior associate for its Climate Technology Fund.

Kara Burns has joined MassMutual Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of US insurer MassMutual.

Formed in 2018, MassMutual Ventures invests in software-as-a-service, cybersecurity, financial technology, healthcare and climate technology developers. It has more than 70 active portfolio companies around the world.

Burns has taken up a senior associate role at MassMutual Ventures’ Climate Technology Fund, where she will focus on climatetech companies based in North America. In addition to her corporate venturing duties, she is pursuing an MBA degree at MIT Sloan School of Management.

Prior to this, Burns was a sector specialist at investment group Fidelity’s growth equity research department.
