Hondo Geurts and Mike Murray, both with decades of experience in the national security sector, joined Anzu-Green Critical Technologies Fund.
Anzu-Green Critical Technologies Fund, a corporate venture capital fund for US lobbying firm JA Green, has hired two venture partners, James (Hondo) Geurts (pictured left) and John (Mike) Murray (pictured right).
Geurts spent almost three decades in the national defence sector, including roles at the US Air Force, the US Special Operations Command and the US Navy. Most recently, he was undersecretary of the US Navy and US Marine Corps. He provides mentoring services on national security, technology, talent and venture at The Hondo Group.
“I believe deeply in the Anzu-Green mission to support companies serving the large and growing market for critical technologies with national security ties,” said Geurts. “I look forward to supporting the growth of promising startups that can help strengthen our industrial base.”
Murray has over 40 years of leadership, command and staff assignment experience with the US Army. He provided strategic advice to groups such as Boeing, Dell Technologies, Capewell and Deloitte.
“The US Department of Defence is increasingly focused on early-stage tech companies that can help develop new, innovative systems to build advantages for our national defence,” said Murray. “I am thrilled to work with the Anzu-Green team to help startups navigate the challenging process of securing government contracts and bringing their technology to market.”
Formed in June this year in partnership with investment firm Anzu Partners, the Anzu-Green Critical Technologies Fund backs companies developing dual-use technologies and products like advanced materials, artificial intelligence, quantum science and renewable energy. It is raising $100m.

The lobbying firm’s Anzu-Green Critical Technologies Fund will back defence technology startups and help them work with the US government.
“Both Gertz and General Murray have decorated military careers and leadership experience in the realm of homeland security that has helped them to identify and incubate startups that can succeed in the defence space,” said Jeff Green, co-managing partner of Anzu-Green Critical Technologies Fund.
“We are thrilled to have them join the leadership team for the Anzu-Green Critical Technologies Fund. We have an opportunity to help fill the gap in the market for critical technology startups that have gained some traction within the DoD but need support to commercialize, grow and realise their greatest potential.”
