Albert Kim, executive vice president and head at Samsung Venture Global, is one of the 100 leading corporate venturing professionals in our 2025 Powerlist.

Albert Kim joined Samsung Ventures America, the corporate VC division of South Korea-based electronics manufacturer Samsung Group, as head in May 2024. He took on the leadership of Samsung Venture Global, formerly known as Samsung Venture Investment Corporation in December 2024. Kim moved to the unit from Ericsson Ventures, the corporate VC arm of telecommunications company Ericsson, which he led for a decade.

Founded in 1999, Samsung Venture Global is headquartered in Seoul and has a strong presence in the world’s innovation hubs across the US, Europe, Israel, India, China and Japan. The team in Seoul includes 42 investment professionals, while there are 19 investors working across its overseas hubs.

Samsung Venture Global has $1.5bn in assets under management and deploys more than $100m in investments annually. The team’s major investment areas are AI and machine learning, semiconductors, telecommunication, software, IT, digital health, fintech, insurtech, biotechnology, energy storage, display, climate, sustainability and media. The unit is stage-agnostic, investing anywhere from early stage to pre-IPO in startups across Europe, Asia and North America.

It was a strong year for the corporate in 2024, with the CVC unit backing the $499m series B funding round for French generative AI software startup Mistral.

The CVC team has made 1,100+ investments to date and has 250+ companies in its portfolio at present. Some of the recent additions to its portfolio include Medisola, a South Korea-based developer of an app-based customised healthy food advice service; Cartesia, a US-based startup using voice AI technology for enhanced communication solutions; and Wooptix, a Spanish semiconductor metrology company using wavefront imaging technology.

It was a strong year for the corporate in 2024, with the CVC unit backing the $499m series B funding round for French generative AI software startup Mistral and taking part in the $675m funding round for humanoid robot developer Figure AI.

Other investments included magnet manufacturing technology provider Niron Magnetics and Liquid Wind, a startup working on systems to convert wind energy to liquid fuel.
