The investment arm will also make investments in VC funds.

Japanese purchasing data analysis company True Data has launched a corporate VC unit to invest in AI startups.
The new unit will focus on investments in AI, machine learning, retail tech, big data and point-of-sale data, marketing tech and fintech.
It will make direct and fund-of-fund investments, having already made its first two commitments, first in a fund managed by VC firm On&Board, focusing on AI agents, and another managed by VC firm Onabaka.
“For further growth in the future, we believe it is essential to collaborate with startups that excel in technological capabilities and speed in areas such as advanced analysis of purchasing behaviour, decision-making support using AI, and new value creation and external expansion of data, which is why we have decided to launch a CVC business,” said the company.
