Business Insider had previously raised $7m, according to news provider TechCrunch.

Business Insider, a US-based media provider, has raised $7m in its latest round from a consortium including investment bank Allen & Company.

Alongside Allen, which specializes in the media sector, were venture capital firms Institutional Venture Partners, RRE Ventures, and angel investors Marc Andreessen, Gordon Crovitz and Ken Lerer.

News wire Bloomberg is an investor in Andreessen’s venture capital firm, Andreessen Horowitz.
