US-based industrial conglomerate 3M’s corporate venturing unit has provided an undisclosed amount to acquire 38% of Perceptive Pixel, a local developer of multi-touch database interfaces.

Stefan Gabriel, president of 3M New Ventures, said: “This strategic investment will create potential growth opportunities for the 3M Touch Systems business unit, stimulating future innovations in a variety of industries that use multi-touch devices.”

Jeff Han founded Perceptive Pixel in 2006 and said: “3M Touch Systems as a global technology leader in the touch industry, particularly with its projective capacitive technology (PCT) products.”

3M New Ventures has previously invested $6.4m for 10% of Artificial Life, a mobile applications developer, Printechnologics, Energy Inc, Txtr, and GTG.
