3M, which runs its own water filtration business, is investing in water purification specialist HydroNovation through its corporate venturing division.

The Fidelity-backed medical device company is preparing for a series B round that could raise up to $10m.

Online fashion retailer Farfetch.com brings its total funding to $24m after a round supported by investors including the Otto Group-backed eVenture.

US-based Akebia, which develops treatments for blood cell deficiency disease anemia, has raised a further $4.1m in series B funding, bringing its total financing for the round to more than $26m.

Gilde is deploying its Philips-backed healthcare fund, which the corporate venturing unit backed in 2010. Philips' Janke Dittmer [pictured] joined Gilde as a partner last year.

Venture capital firms Canaan Partners, TPG Biotech, Care Capital and Mesa Verde Venture Partners also invested in the B round having provided $30m for Elevation's A round in January 2010.

The pharmaceutical corporation leads a $10m funding round for Daktari Diagnostics, which develops HIV testing equipment for use in developing countries.

Investors included New York-listed drugs company Abbott Laboratories' corporate venturing subsidiary, Abbott Biotech Ventures.
