Novo Ventures leads a $20m B round into US-based osteoarthritis company Flexion Therapeutics.

The medical device and equipment maker backed by SR One and Novo raises a further $7.5m.

US-based financial services firm Morgan Stanley lead a $15.3m Series E round for US-based NanoString Technologies, a privately held life sciences diagnostics company.

As part of the investment of undisclosed size, MorphoSys said it had preferred rights to exclusively license the Lanthio peptide technology for drug discovery.

Alongside Mayo Ventures in the seed round were venture capital firms Kleiner Perkins Caufield & byers, Mohr Davidow Ventures, and Aberdare Ventures.

The $8m extension brings Rhythm's B round to $33m and the total raised to $73m in less than two years.

In May, Rib-X postponed its $80m initial public offering, according to Nasdaq OMX.
