In December 2011, Aviir said it would raise up to $30m led by local drugs maker Merck's Global Health Innovation corporate venturing fund.

Michael Doyle, chief executive of QPID, told news provider Mass High Tech the money was invested in December by venture capital firm Matrix Partners, Partners Innovation Fund and the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization.

Baronova, a US-based medical device maker for weight loss, has raised $27.3m in its series C round led by Sante Ventures and US-listed healthcare company Boston Scientific as new investors.

In December 2011, Catabasis extended its series A round by $8m to take its total raised to $47.6m from a consortium including drugs group AstraZeneca's MedImmune Ventures corporate venturing unit.
