The latest reported funding would take Nextio to $61.5m raised in its eight year history.

Separately one of its portfolio companies, Wildcat Discovery Technologies, has raised $7.5m.

Washington Post-backed Fab.com reportedly takes its total raised in venture financing to $11.6m after metamorphosing into a design items sales website.

Sanjay Srivastava, general partner at SKS Capital and senior vice-president of research and development at Cadence Design Systems, said: "This new capital will enable Nvelo to accelerate the development of new and disruptive products for both the client and server markets."

The communications group has led the latest funding round by the emotional measurement company, which looks detect how people react emotionally using computers.

Disney's Steamboat Ventures has backed one of the analytic companies, Ground Truth, since its series A round.
