Urban Compass, a local services location service, has raised $8m in its seed round from a consortium including investment bank Goldman Sachs and venture firm Founders Fund.

Craig Weissman, former chief technology officer at Salesforce, co-founded Duetto alongside Patrick Bosworth and Marco Benveuti, both formerly of hotel and casino chain Wynn Las Vegas.

Koding announced its first round of $2m in March 2011, led by RTP Ventures, the US affiliate of Russia-based IT investment conglomerate Ru-Net, and venture capital firm Greycroft Partners.

Brian Bischoff, chief executive of Healthsense, said: "The addition of respected investors and industry leaders like Merck GHIF [Global Health Innovation Fund] and Fallon Community Health Plan supports our belief that our technology and approach can both improve quality and reduce cost."

Energy Technology Ventures (ETV), a multi-corporate venture capital firm on behalf of oil major ConocoPhillips, industrial conglomerate General Electric (GE) and utility NRG Energy, was the other strategic investor.

Canvas Network, an online education platform developed by learning management software (LMS) provider Instructure which received $9.1m investment for the platform, has begun offering free and open online courses.
