Energy efficiency technology company Transphorm, already backed by investors including Nihon Inter Electronics Company and Google Ventures, files for $15m fund raise.

Fabless semiconductor Newlans raises $15m series B funding round led by Intel Capital and including Lockheed Martin Corporation.

VivaKi, the corporate venturing unit of French communications company Publicis Groupe, has invested in a $15m series C round of funding for PlaceIQ. The deal was led by new investors Harmony Partners and Iris Capital, fund manager for Orange and Publicis since 2012. PlaceIQ will leverage the latest round of funding to expand the business and pursue additional growth opportunities.

Japan internet services company and incubator, Digital Garage, has contributed an additional $7.5m in a $10m round to US start-up investor and product launch company, betaworks. The latest funding is part of a larger $20m funding round that was announced in December 2013. Since 2008 the company has raised a reported $47.5m.

Ziebel, a Norwegian provider of specialist well intervention services for the oil and gas industry, has closed a round of growth capital raising $10m. The funding was secured from lead investor ConocoPhillips Technology Ventures, along with Chevron Technology Ventures, and Energy Technology Ventures. Existing Ziebel investors Energy Ventures, Viking Venture, Jebsen Asset Management, Investinor, and Klaveness Invest also participated in the round.
