Intel Capital led the sports video platform's series B round, which included the owners of the LA Dodgers, Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Intel Capital, the corporate venturing arm of semiconductor maker Intel, led a $12m series B round for Israel-based sports video creation platform WSC Sports Technologies today.
The round also featured the owners of baseball franchise the Los Angeles Dodgers; the Wilf family, who own American football team the Minnesota Vikings; and Dan Gilbert, the majority owner of basketball team and 2016 NBA champions the Cleveland Cavaliers.
WSC Sports has built a platform that rapidly indexes sporting events to help customers including the NBA and broadcaster Turner Sports rapidly create customised highlights videos that can be shown and share across multiple digital and social channels.
Wendell Brooks, president of Intel Capital, said: “Technology is reinventing the way people consume and interact with sports, adding compelling new dimensions to the game. We see sports as a transformative area for investment.
“We are pleased to work with WSC Sports as a leading innovator in generating new, large-scale video content to boost fan engagement.”
Uri Arazy, a director at Intel Capital, will join WSC Sports’ board of directors in conjunction with the round, which increased the company’s total funding to $16m.
WSC Sports has not disclosed details of its series A round, but the Wall Street Journal reported in 2013 it had raised $1m in seed funding from investors including Plus Ventures, and had taken part in software producer Microsoft’s Israeli Windows Azure accelerator.
