Mobility company Whill, which is backed the corporate venturing units of Itochu and NTT Docomo, has added $5m to the $6m in raised in July, securing a total of $11m in series A funding for its high-performance wheelchairs.

US-based Whill, which manufactures high-performance wheelchairs, has secured $11m in a series A funding in a round featuring NTT Docomo Ventures, a corporate venturing subsidiary of telecommunications company NTT Docomo, the Wall Street journal has reported.

The state-run Innovation Network Corporation of Japan, seed fund 500 Startups, Taiwan-based metal stamping company Jochu Technology and Scott McNealy, the co-founder of Sun Microsystems, also participated.

The company sells high-performance wheel chairs, which have the ability to navigate rough terrain and steep incline.…
