The social communications company previously backed by International Data Group's corporate venturing unit seals the acquisition.

US-based and corporate-backed social communications company Vivox has bought video chat company Droplet for an undisclosed sum.

Vivox has had corporate venturing backing from IDG Ventures, the $3.7bn corporate venturing division of US-based technology publisher International Data Group.Peacock Equity, NBC Universal’s corporate venturing unit which was merged with Comcast’s rival unit last year.

In July 2010 Peacock backed Vivox with a $2m investment.  Vivox has previously raised $20.6m. Other backers include venture capital firms Benchmark Capital, Canaan Partners and GrandBanks Capital.
