Nasdaq-listed Harmonic has agreed to buy data storage provider Omneon for $274m and give a windfall to its corporate venture backer after failing to float.

Omneon had raised about $100m since 1998 from Lucent Ventures, which owned 5.5% and is owned by equipment company Lucent and secondaries investor Coller Capital. The other shareholders in Omneon include venture capital firms Norwest Venture Partners (16.1%), Accel Partners (16.1%), Advanced Technology Ventures (16.1%), Meritech Capital Partners (7.6%), Invesco Private Capital (7.6%).
